The Role: Tax / Treasury Specialist
This pivotal role is designed for a proactive and detail-oriented professional who will be instrumental in safeguarding IDL's financial health and regulatory compliance. As our Tax / Treasury Specialist, you will manage crucial aspects of our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strategic foresight.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Tax Management:
- Overseeing monthly computation and timely remittance of statutory obligations including VAT, WHT, PAYE, NSITF, ITF (quarterly), and pension.
- Proactively monitoring changes in tax legislation and assessing their potential impact on the organization.
- Actively assisting in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to optimize the company’s tax position.
- Maintaining precise and comprehensive tax records and documentation.
- Preparing tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and related financial disclosures with utmost accuracy.
- Ensuring the timely payment of outstanding taxes and supporting tax audits.
- Liaising effectively with external tax advisors and tax authorities to ensure compliance and resolve issues.
Treasury Management:
- Managing daily cash operations, including meticulous monitoring of cash balances, efficient funds transfers, and streamlined payment processing.
- Preparing accurate short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts to support strategic liquidity planning.
- Nurturing and managing banking relationships, handling account openings, closures, and signatory updates.
- Monitoring foreign exchange exposure and assisting in the formulation of hedging strategies (e.g., forward contracts, swaps).
- Overseeing and managing intercompany loans, borrowings, and investment activities.
- Ensuring strict compliance with internal treasury policies, covenants, and regulatory requirements.
- Preparing insightful treasury reports and detailed analyses for management review.
Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintaining and updating the Fixed Assets Register (FAR), ensuring all additions and disposals are accurately posted into GL accounts and fully aligned with the GL.
- Ensuring items capitalized adhere to the capitalisation policy and reconciling Capital WIP with GL balances.
- Accurately recording and amortizing intangible assets and right-of-use assets.
- Developing and maintaining depreciation schedules in line with applicable accounting standards.
- Coordinating periodic physical verification of fixed assets, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and ensuring proper asset tagging and tracking.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards such as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ensuring weekly updates and reconciliation of total cards on the ERP system.
- Performing meticulous reconciliation of foreign bank accounts and loan accounts.
- Contributing to the review of management accounts and undertaking other financial tasks as assigned.
Who We Are Looking For:
To excel in this role, you should possess a strong foundation in finance and accounting, coupled with practical experience and a keen eye for detail:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field.
- Professional Certifications: Professional certifications such as ACCA, ICAN, or equivalent are a significant advantage.
- Experience: 3 – 6 years of relevant, hands-on experience in a similar role.
- Technical Acumen: Proficiency in preparing Financial Statements and expertise in Financial Reporting. A deep understanding of Finance principles is essential.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and treasury management systems (TMS).
- Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with statutory remittance processes and compliance frameworks is highly preferred.
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
- Work Ethic: Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of meeting stringent deadlines.
