The Opportunity: Tax Accounting Specialist
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Tax Accounting Specialist to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role requires a professional who can ensure the meticulous and timely preparation and filing of all corporate tax returns, including but not limited to Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Withholding Tax (WHT).
The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of Nigerian tax regulations and bring invaluable hands-on experience in effective engagement with various tax authorities. Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, review, and submission of all federal and state tax returns (e.g., CIT, VAT, WHT).
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, advising the company on potential impacts.
- Manage and facilitate effective communication and interactions with federal, state, and local tax authorities (e.g., FIRS, NIRS, LIRS) for audits, queries, and compliance matters.
- Oversee and manage Transfer Pricing documentation and compliance in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Provide expert tax advice and support to internal stakeholders on various business transactions and initiatives.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure proper tax provisions are made in the financial statements.
- Identify opportunities for tax efficiencies and risk mitigation.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this critical role, applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
- Professional Certification: Must be a Chartered Accountant (ICAN/ACCA certified).
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive, post-qualification experience in a similar tax accounting role, preferably within the oil and gas or a related natural resources sector.
- Tax Knowledge: Demonstrated strong knowledge and practical application of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
- Regulatory Engagement: Proven hands-on experience in dealing effectively with various tax authorities, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigerian Inland Revenue Service (NIRS), and State Internal Revenue Services (e.g., Lagos State Internal Revenue Service - LIRS).
- Specialized Expertise: Practical and proven experience in Transfer Pricing strategies and compliance.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SAP for financial management and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
