The People Practice is partnering with one of Nigeria’s major conglomerates to recruit a highly strategic and experienced professional for the role of Head of Portfolio Value Creation.

This critical role serves as the organization's principal day-to-day portfolio engagement lead, reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO). You will partner with portfolio company leadership teams to accelerate growth, optimize operational performance, strengthen organizational accountability, and maximize long-term shareholder value across diverse businesses and strategic investment platforms.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Portfolio Value Creation, you will be responsible for leading strategic oversight, driving business transformations, and ensuring robust execution across the organization's portfolio. Key accountability areas include:

1. Portfolio Value Creation & Strategic Execution

Drive high-impact value creation initiatives across portfolio companies, taking ownership of measurable performance improvements.
Collaborate with portfolio executive teams to implement and monitor strategic and operational improvements in alignment with shareholder goals.
Coordinate, track, and monitor agreed management action plans to ensure timely delivery of strategic business priorities.

2. Portfolio Engagement & Relationship Management

Serve as the primary liaison between the conglomerate and its portfolio company executives (MDs, CEOs, and senior leadership).
Build credible, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders while maintaining rigorous shareholder accountability.
Proactively identify and escalate performance issues, delays, or governance challenges to the CIO with proposed intervention plans.

3. Strategic Planning & Business Performance Management

Lead portfolio company strategic planning, annual reviews, and performance management cycles.
Examine, challenge, and refine commercial growth assumptions, operational workflows, and capital deployment budgets.
Track and analyze key financial and operational metrics, identifying gaps and initiating interventions to improve outcomes.

4. Business Transformation & Improvement

Design and implement transformation programs that improve overall commercial and operational capabilities.
Establish a robust culture of accountability and execution discipline across all active portfolio engagements.

5. Investment Evaluation & Platform Development

Support the evaluation, due diligence, and execution of new investment opportunities.
Assess post-investment operational integration risks and map out value capture frameworks.
Contribute to the conceptualization and launch of new business ventures, platforms, and operating models.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this high-accountability role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and professional competencies:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Strategy, Management, or a related discipline. An MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is highly advantageous.
Experience: Minimum of 12-15 years of relevant experience across portfolio operations, corporate strategy, transformation execution, private equity portfolio operations, management consulting, or investment management.
Industry Background: Experience working in multi-business, conglomerate, or investment-led environments is strongly preferred.
Key Skills: Governance and stakeholder management, business diagnostics, strategic planning, performance tracking, commercial acumen, and operational improvement.
