About the Role
As the Head of Internal Control & Audit, you will serve as the primary architect of the bank's risk management and internal governance processes. You will be responsible for leading a high-performing team, ensuring compliance with complex regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of ethics and operational excellence. This role is perfect for a senior professional who thrives in a high-stakes environment and possesses the technical expertise to navigate both internal audit requirements and external regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Internal Control and Internal Audit departments.
- Develop and execute risk-based audit plans and internal control review programs.
- Ensure stringent compliance with CBN guidelines, BOFIA, AML/CFT requirements, and IFRS standards.
- Oversee audits of key financial processes, including loan origination, treasury operations, and information security systems.
- Act as the primary liaison with external regulators and auditors, ensuring transparency and professional cooperation.
- Lead investigations into fraud and control breaches while driving the implementation of audit recommendations across the organization.
- Mentor, develop, and build a high-performing team of audit professionals.
Requirements for Success
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Mandatory professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, CIA, CISA, CFE, or CRMA).
- A minimum of seven (7) years of post-qualification experience, with at least three (3) years in a senior leadership role within the financial sector.
- Strong working knowledge of the COSO Framework and enterprise risk management principles.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with regulators such as the CBN and NDIC.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, particularly in board-level reporting.
- Unquestioned personal integrity and a commitment to professional ethics.
