Terre des hommes (Tdh), the leading Swiss child relief agency, is seeking a highly qualified Consultant to design and deliver a comprehensive Risk Management and Compliance Capacity Strengthening Training in Maiduguri, Nigeria.

The Foundation protects children against exploitation and violence, improves the health of children and mothers, and provides critical emergency psychological and material support during humanitarian crises. Operating in complex environments, Tdh prioritizes robust accountability, child safeguarding, and organizational compliance.

Purpose of the Consultancy

In complex humanitarian and development landscapes, effective risk management and compliance are crucial for maintaining donor trust, ensuring legal accountability, and safeguarding communities. This consultancy aims to strengthen the organizational capacity of Tdh’s partner organizations and select staff, enabling them to systematically identify, assess, manage, and monitor strategic, programmatic, operational, and financial risks.

Training Objectives

By the end of this training program, participants will be equipped to:

• Understand foundational risk management and compliance concepts in development and humanitarian contexts.
• Identify, categorize, and prioritize various organizational risks.
• Utilize practical risk assessment and mitigation tools.
• Establish and maintain active risk registers and monitoring systems.
• Strengthen internal controls and accountability mechanisms.
• Ensure compliance with donor mandates, legal regulations, and strict safeguarding standards.

Scope of Work and Deliverables

The selected consultant will manage the entire training life cycle, which includes:

• Conducting a pre-training capacity assessment.
• Designing a context-specific curriculum covering internal controls, procurement compliance, PSEA, and fraud prevention.
• Delivering a highly interactive, 5-day training program in Maiduguri.
• Guiding participants in drafting their own organizational risk registers.
• Providing a comprehensive final report with recommendations.

Consultant Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:

• At least 5 to 7 years of active experience in risk management, compliance, audit, or governance within NGOs, INGOs, or development agencies.
• Demonstrated experience in training delivery and curriculum design.
• Deep understanding of donor compliance requirements and safeguarding/PSEA policies.
• Strong facilitation, analytical, and professional reporting skills.

Assignment Schedule and Location

The total duration of the assignment is seven (7) days, scheduled from September 21st to September 25th, 2026 (training delivery days), with additional days allocated for pre-assessment and final reporting. The assignment is based in Maiduguri, with venue and logistical support fully provided by Tdh.

• Tax Clearance Certificate: Proof of tax compliance (if applying as a company).
• Valid Means of Identification: National Identity Card, Driver’s License, or International Passport.
• SCUML Registration Certificate: Evidence of registration under anti–money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations applicable to designated non-financial institutions (if applying as a company).
