The Opportunity: Branch Accountant Role Overview
As a Branch Accountant, you will be the cornerstone of our branch's financial health. We are seeking a professional who can expertly oversee all financial and accounting operations, ensuring accurate reporting, robust internal controls, and strict compliance with company policies and statutory regulations. Your expertise will be crucial in managing daily accounting activities, meticulously monitoring branch finances, reconciling accounts, and supervising accounting support staff. - Oversee all daily accounting and financial activities within the branch, serving as the primary financial custodian.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure the timely and precise recording of all transactions.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, providing management with clear insights into the branch's performance.
- Execute thorough reconciliations of cash, bank accounts, customer accounts, supplier accounts, and general ledger balances to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor branch revenue, expenses, and cash flow diligently to maintain financial accuracy and control operational costs.
- Ensure the proper processing of invoices, payment vouchers, receipts, journal entries, and other critical accounting documents.
- Supervise cash handling procedures, enforcing compliance with company financial policies and stringent internal controls.
- Monitor inventory-related financial transactions and perform regular stock reconciliations in close collaboration with the warehouse and operations teams.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and actively assist with budget preparation, meticulous forecasting, and in-depth financial analysis.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities by providing accurate financial records and comprehensive documentation.
- Ensure all statutory deductions, tax obligations, and regulatory requirements are accurately processed and reported where applicable, maintaining full compliance.
- Supervise and provide professional guidance to the Assistant Branch Accountant and other finance support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Proactively identify financial risks, recommend effective corrective actions, and implement process improvements to continually strengthen financial controls.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information across the organization.
- Ensure proper filing, diligent safekeeping, and strict confidentiality of all financial records and documents.
Key Requirements: What We're Looking For
To excel in this role, you should possess a robust foundation in accounting and a proactive approach to financial management:
- A Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline.
- Professional accounting certification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) is highly advantageous and demonstrates a commitment to excellence.
- A minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, taxation regulations, and effective internal controls.
- Proven experience in bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, budget preparation, and insightful financial analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly advanced Excel skills, and practical experience with accounting software.
