Role Overview

The Assistant Branch Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of branch operations. Working directly under the supervision of the Branch Accountant, the successful candidate will assist in managing daily financial workflows, processing transactions, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring strict compliance with established corporate policies. This role demands high accuracy, proactive problem-solving, and strong analytical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Record Keeping: Assist in maintaining accurate, up-to-date financial records and processing daily accounting transactions in line with standard accounting principles.
  • Reporting Support: Help prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports to assist management in strategic decision-making.
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform thorough and timely reconciliations of bank accounts, petty cash, customer ledgers, and other financial statements.
  • Expense Monitoring: Assist in monitoring branch expenditures and verifying that transactions align with company budgetary policies and procedures.
  • Document Processing: Prepare, review, and process invoices, payment vouchers, official receipts, and other key financial documents accurately.
  • Inventory Control: Support inventory audits and participate in reconciling physical stock with financial records where necessary.
  • Audit & Compliance: Maintain organized filing systems for audit readiness, and provide active support during internal and external audit exercises.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with operations, sales, and logistics teams to ensure the accuracy of all financial records and transactions.

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related academic discipline.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in bookkeeping, financial operations, or standard accounting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of basic accounting principles, financial reconciliation processes, and Microsoft Office applications (particularly advanced Excel). Experience with modern accounting software is highly desirable.
  • Skills & Attributes: Exceptional numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, strong organizational capabilities, and the ability to multi-task efficiently under tight timelines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative attitude.
