About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Area Business Manager to lead our direct distribution operations in Akwa Ibom. In this pivotal role, you will be at the forefront of coordinating sales, collections, and distribution for Sun King's innovative Pay-As-You-Basis (“EasyBuy”) solar products. You will achieve this through a dedicated network of agents, known as “Energy Officers.” Your ultimate accountability will be to drive rapid, sustainable growth in sales, ensure timely and accurate collections, and expand our reach.

What You Would Be Expected To Do

Hire & Retain Energy Officers

  • Strategically recruit, thoroughly train, and effectively manage a robust team of at least 40 Sun King Energy Officers within your assigned area.
  • Leverage diverse recruitment channels, engaging local influencers such as village heads, teachers, religious leaders, doctors, and farmers to identify top talent committed to our mission.
  • Cultivate Sun King’s reputation and goodwill within communities, championing our commitment to providing clean, affordable, and reliable energy solutions.

Training of Energy Officers

  • Deliver comprehensive training to Energy Officers across critical business aspects, including advanced sales techniques, collection strategies, product knowledge, technical support, inventory management, and logistics.
  • Ensure consistent and professional supervision, upholding the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in all customer interactions.

Provide Role Clarity to Energy Officers

  • Clearly define daily tasks, sales & collections plans, designated routes, and performance targets for all Energy Officers.
  • Equip Energy Officers with the knowledge and confidence to effectively demonstrate and sell Sun King products, address basic customer queries on the spot, and ensure continuous access to your support for any questions or concerns.

Daily Field Visits

  • Maintain weekly direct engagement with every Energy Officer in your area through in-person meetings, joint customer sales visits, or regular calls.
  • Proactively resolve all issues faced by Energy Officers and provide weekly comprehensive reports to your Regional Business Manager.
  • Personally oversee the first five sales of each new Energy Officer to guarantee a thorough understanding and application of core sales and collection processes.

Work with Energy Officers

  • Conduct regular joint field work sessions with groups of Energy Officers, providing ongoing sales and collection training and fostering strong team engagement.
  • Organize and lead night activations, market activations, and visits to local communities and gatherings such as SACCOs, Self Help groups, and retail centers to facilitate group sales.

Exceed Your Sales & Collections Targets

  • Consistently meet or surpass sales and collection targets established monthly by your Regional Business Manager.
  • Provide daily and weekly updates on sales performance, Energy Officer recruitment progress, customer issues, and their resolutions, maintaining full alignment with your Regional Business Manager.

Drive Robust Field Sales Processes

  • Daily review collection progress with your Energy Officers, providing targeted training to enhance collection efficiency.
  • Implement strategies for customer and area profiling, ensuring regular and timely collection follow-ups, resolving customer issues to secure payments, and, as a last resort, managing system repossessions in cases of default.

Remain Externally Focused

  • Actively monitor competitor activities within your area and implement proactive measures to safeguard and expand Sun King's market share.
  • Keep your management team informed of market dynamics and collaborate to ensure Sun King remains the premier brand for solar products in your territory.

Resolve Customer Issues

  • Deliver world-class customer service across all touchpoints: product delivery, usage and payment training, installation, and after-sales warranty support.
  • Work diligently with your Energy Officers to establish clear expectations and streamlined processes to resolve all customer issues within a 24-hour timeframe.

Control Marketing & Other Spend

  • Ensure Energy Officers are adequately equipped with necessary marketing materials and tools, such as smartphones.
  • Optimize return on investment for all expenditures related to marketing, supply chain, store maintenance, and smartphone issuance.

Review Meetings with Energy Officers

  • Conduct productive weekly table meetings with Energy Officers, ensuring your Regional Business Manager is present to address any outstanding customer or EO issues.
  • Plan and organize these meetings for maximum attendance and progress, recognizing outstanding performers and maintaining high motivation levels among Energy Officers.

Grow Retail Presence

  • Collaborate with Cluster leaders, hired under your supervision, to strategically expand Sun King’s retail network within your Area.

You Might Be A Strong Candidate If You

  • Hold a Degree in a Business-related field or equivalent, complemented by at least 3 years of hands-on experience in Sales.
  • Possess excellent computer proficiency, with comprehensive knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have extensive experience in Customer Care, demonstrating a deep understanding of customer satisfaction.
  • Are innovative, consistently thinking outside the box to develop creative solutions.
  • Excel in Planning, Organizing, Prioritizing, maximizing value, and maintaining a clear strategic vision.
  • Are skilled in building strong internal and external relationships, fostering collaboration and trust.
  • Are an attentive listener, proficient in coaching others, and disciplined in your continuous learning practices.
  • Demonstrate Operation Excellence: consistently deliver on promises, proactively seek information, and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the Akwa Ibom territory.
