The Role: Utilities Artisan

The key purpose of this position is to provide specialized electrical artisan skills and knowledge to the shift team. You will be instrumental in supporting the operation and maintenance of the E&F (Energy and Fluids) plant, performing routine tasks, and assisting with advanced electrical problem-solving. This role requires collaboration, rapid technical diagnosis, and a strong commitment to keeping the brewery running efficiently and safely.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

As a Utilities Artisan, your duties will span across several critical operational areas:

1. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Comply consistently with occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures and local legislation.
  • Maintain exceptional safety and housekeeping standards within your work area.
  • Identify and report unsafe practices through Safety Improvement Opportunities (SIOs).
  • Participate in safety inspections and audit safe maintenance practices.
  • Adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies and ensure that maintenance tools are kept in good working order.

2. Plant Maintenance & Repair

  • Locate plant, equipment, spares, and relevant technical documentation or systems efficiently.
  • Plan and prepare effectively for upcoming maintenance jobs.
  • Carry out necessary repairs and maintenance on plant machinery and associated devices.
  • Safely operate a variety of workshop equipment.

3. Operational Support & Teamwork

  • Provide specialized electrical support to shift-based teams during daily operations.
  • Serve as the functional expert in solving electrical and technical problems on shift.
  • Work collaboratively to support Process Artisans and ensure seamless communication within your team.

4. Planned & Routine Maintenance

  • Participate in maintenance planning meetings, contributing practical suggestions and clarifying technical requirements.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance tasks during planned outages according to schedules provided by the Maintenance Planner.
  • Partake in maintenance postmortems to share feedback, identify opportunities, and document key learnings.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and inspection duties.

5. Running Repairs & Problem Solving

  • Identify, assess, and execute running repairs on plant equipment.
  • Complete all administrative tasks related to running repairs within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve technical issues and escalate complex issues to the Maintenance Controller when necessary.

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Education: Minimum of HND, B.Sc, or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
  • Certification: Being an Electrical Artisan - Trade Tested is a highly valued added advantage.
  • Training: 2 to 3 months of on-the-job training is required (3 to 6 months is ideal).
  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of active experience as an Electrical Artisan in a similar fast-moving manufacturing or process industry.
