Advance Your Career as a Telecommunications Deployment Project Supervisor at ipNX Nigeria Limited
ipNX Nigeria Limited stands at the forefront of Nigeria's telecommunications and information technology landscape, delivering critical infrastructure-based services. With a rich legacy spanning over a decade, born from the divestment of Telnet Nigeria Limited's telecommunications services division, ipNX has consistently provided cutting-edge IP-based communication and IT services to corporate organizations across the nation. As we strategically expand our reach to encompass small and medium-sized businesses and residential customers, and plan a significant presence in the wireline market to support future high-bandwidth services, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team.
The Opportunity: Telecommunications Deployment Project Supervisor
We are searching for a dedicated Telecommunications Deployment Project Supervisor to play a pivotal role in the execution of our ambitious projects. This position is central to ensuring that our telecommunications infrastructure deployments are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. If you thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment and possess a keen eye for detail and a passion for technology, this role offers an exceptional platform to make a tangible impact.
Key Responsibilities: Driving Project Excellence
As a Telecommunications Deployment Project Supervisor, your responsibilities will be diverse and impactful, encompassing the entire project lifecycle:
- Project Ownership & Planning: Acknowledge, own, and deeply understand assigned projects. This includes a thorough review of project design packs (BOM, HLPD, design drawing) within 24 hours of assignment and ensuring contractors share the same clear understanding of objectives to prevent scope creep.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Initiate kick-off meetings with Estate/Facility Managers and contractors, distributing notification letters to residents 48 hours before civil works begin. Proactively manage relationships with all key stakeholders, including residents, customers, property owners, and local community representatives.
- Logistics & Compliance: Ensure timely availability of project materials, cabinet resources, and 'permit-to-work' (PTW) approvals. Promptly escalate and track resolutions for any material or permit issues. Strictly enforce compliance with ipNX work methods, deployment guidelines, and all safety regulations (SHE standards) across various work environments.
- On-Site Supervision & Quality Assurance: Conduct daily site visits to actively monitor civil works (trenching, ducting, hand-hole construction, pole planting, cabinet installation) and supervise cable pulling, MST box installation, splicing, and termination. Crucially, you will review the quality of all supplied materials, rejecting sub-standard items and escalating as necessary.
- Testing & Commissioning: Perform final integration and commissioning of service terminals (GPON or P2P), ensuring acceptable loss levels. Submit all required test reports for service fulfillment and maintenance operations.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide daily project work plans and activity reports to your team lead, along with prompt updates on any challenges impacting delivery dates. Submit comprehensive reports including kick-off meeting reports, milestone reports, MST/P2P splice sheets, OTDR trace tests, and hand-over reports within 24 hours of activity completion.
- Financial & Administrative Oversight: Validate, submit, and track variations and milestone payments until approval. Ensure all project snags are cleared prior to hand-over and audit.
- Team Collaboration: Actively participate in and lead project hand-over/audit exercises, attend all relevant project meetings, and provide support to other team members or units as required.
Who We're Looking For: Your Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, you should possess a robust blend of academic knowledge, practical experience, and essential certifications:
- Education: A University Degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or Applied Sciences is essential.
- Certifications (Added Advantage): Certifications in Fibre Optic Cabling (CFOT or FOA) and HSE Grade III will significantly boost your application.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated proficient use of fiber test tools such as OTDR, power meter & light source, and VFL. You should also be adept with design software like AutoCAD, Visio/GIS tools, and basic data analytics software including Excel, Word, and Google live sheets.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and oral communication skills are crucial for effective stakeholder engagement and reporting.
- Industry Knowledge: Sound knowledge of fiber network architectures, designs, and splice plans is a must.
- Experience: Over 2 years of proven track record in supervising fiber infrastructure projects across various environments, including Estates (MDU/MTUs), High Streets (Metro), and Highways (long distance).
- Maintenance Experience: Experience in FTTH and P2P fiber maintenance, including fusion splicing, testing and analyzing fiber links with OTDR and LSPM, identifying fiber cores with VFLs, and understanding loss budgets, is a distinct advantage.
