About the Role: Technical Superintendent
The Technical Superintendent plays a crucial role in the overall management and technical operations of assigned vessels. This demanding yet rewarding position requires a proactive approach to maintenance, meticulous attention to compliance, and strong leadership in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and economic operation of our valuable marine assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vessel Management & Maintenance: Oversee daily maintenance, repairs, and survey scheduling. Conduct onboard general assessments and inspections, and manage dry-docking processes when required.
- Operational Excellence & Compliance: Ensure all Company-owned and managed vessels operate safely, efficiently, and economically, in full compliance with Class and Statutory regulations. Maintain the classification status of vessels and ensure timely reporting.
- Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM): Support and monitor on-board PPM systems, ensuring cost-effective management and effective implementation according to company standards and procedures.
- Budget & Resource Management: Hold budget responsibility for technical elements of assigned vessels. Identify and source technical and operational supplies, ensuring economical rates.
- Third-Party Equipment & Services: Oversee the installation and certification of third-party equipment (e.g., Diving, ROV). Coordinate and supervise service repairs, utilizing approved sub-contractors and ensuring timely, satisfactory completion within budget.
- Technical Guidance & Liaison: Liaise proactively with Vessel Masters and Chief Engineers, providing expert technical advice and assistance. Collaborate with the Purchasing department to track and expedite requisitions, ensuring minimum spare requirements are met.
- Dry-Docking & Repairs: Prepare accurate and comprehensive vessel dry-dock specifications. Supervise dry-dockings and repairs, potentially at remote locations, liaising with repair yards, sub-contractors, Class, and Administration to ensure adherence to specifications and schedules.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide detailed written reports on in-service repairs, dry-docking repairs, and surveys, including cost incurred. Ensure all relevant information is updated in the PMS system. Maintain and update the vessel Technical Library.
- Customer & Industry Engagement: Liaise with customers on technical and operational matters, including vessel performance. Ensure adherence to IMCA guidelines and "best industry practices."
- Strategic Input: Contribute to the appraisal and selection of repair yards and technical service providers. Provide input for tender documents, including establishing costs, budgets, and programs.
- Personnel Development: Carry out appraisals of Chief Engineers at the end of their contracts, contributing to team development.
Additional Contributions:
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge through continuous personal development, training, and self-learning.
- Undertake other technical-related assignments as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Participate in annual reviews and project evaluations to assess success and identify areas for future improvement.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional with a strong background in marine engineering. The ideal candidate will possess:
- An Unlimited STCW ’95 Chief Engineer’s license (Motor) for sea-going vessels, OR
- An Engineering Degree or Diploma in Mechanics / Electromechanical Engineering.
