Overview

Speechify is a leader in making reading accessible, empowering over 50 million users to transform any text into audio across numerous platforms. Our Android app proudly stands as the most used text-to-speech application on the Play Store. The rapid growth of our user base means we truly need a seasoned Team Lead. This individual will take full ownership of our core product development and play a crucial role in significantly raising how our team approaches its work. Please note, despite a location appearing in the job title for administrative purposes, this is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity, meaning you can contribute effectively from anywhere on the globe.

We have nearly 200 dedicated professionals worldwide, working in a 100% distributed setting. Our team includes frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and other experts from leading companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. Many also come from top PhD programs such as Stanford, high-growth startups like Stripe, Vercel, and Bolt, and even a number of founders from their own companies.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of core product features for our flagship Android application.
Mentor and guide a team of talented Android engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Drive key architectural decisions and uphold the highest standards for code quality, performance, and reliability.
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define ambitious roadmaps and deliver truly impactful user experiences.
Champion best practices in software development, including robust testing, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and agile methodologies.
Contribute directly to the codebase, tackling complex technical challenges and setting a strong example for your team.
Identify and implement innovative strategies to scale the Android application, supporting its rapidly expanding global user base.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

Extensive experience building and launching highly successful, large-scale Android applications.
Proven leadership experience, having successfully managed and mentored software engineers.
A deep understanding of the Android ecosystem, including its SDKs, development tools, and best practices.
Strong proficiency in both Kotlin and Java.
Experience with modern architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, and clean architecture.
A solid grasp of testing methodologies and practical experience implementing automated tests.
Excellent communication skills and a truly collaborative approach to problem solving.
A genuine passion for creating accessible and intuitive user experiences.
Demonstrable ability to thrive in a fast-paced, 100% distributed work environment.
