About the Role
Finding the right therapist shouldn't feel like navigating an impossible maze, yet millions of people struggle every day to get affordable care. At Headway, we are tackling that crisis head on. We built software that makes insurance painless for providers, enabling thousands of therapists to accept health coverage and reach people who actually need it. Now, as a Staff Software Engineer on our Journeys team, you will have the chance to shape how patients find, connect with, and experience their mental healthcare from the ground up. This is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity that invites you to build technical systems with massive real world impact from anywhere you work best.
Overview
Headway is a Series D organization backed by top tier venture funds including a16z, Accel, and Spark Capital, with over $325M in funding. More than 90,000 providers across all 50 states already run their practices on our platform, serving 2.6 million patients. While we started out by solving the messy administrative headache of insurance billing, we are rapidly expanding into the core platform where care actually takes place. The Journeys team is responsible for architecting the primary user pathways, streamlining patient discovery, and blending smart product design with AI driven infrastructure to unlock seamless mental health journeys.

- Incorporate pragmatic AI solutions that personalize matches between patients and providers while keeping data strictly secure.
- Elevate software craftsmanship across the company by championing sound design patterns, thorough testing, and clean code standards.
- Mentor engineers across multiple squads, unlocking their growth and setting a high bar for collaborative technical execution.
Requirements
We value deep engineering insight, clear communication, and an appetite for complex problems. You will likely thrive if you bring the following qualities.
