Overview

We are searching for a seasoned System Architect to join our dedicated CMS team. This pivotal role places you as the senior technical authority for a critical Medicare Part A claims processing system, a robust platform built on a 3+ million line COBOL mainframe. This position is contingent upon a contract award. As a designated Key Personnel role, the selected candidate will be asked to sign a letter of intent. You may also be invited to participate in oral presentations or pre award activities as part of the proposal process. This is a fully remote role, open to candidates from anywhere in the world.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the technical integrity for the FISS architecture, overseeing all changes, enhancements, and modernization efforts.
Provide expert guidance on how the mainframe seamlessly integrates with cloud hosted components and modern API based services on AWS.
Establish architectural standards and meticulously review all technical decisions that impact the core system.
Ensure changes involving COBOL, CICS, and VSAM are thoughtfully implemented and managed throughout the system lifecycle.
Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure architectural vision translates into robust, scalable solutions.
Drive forward thinking architectural strategies to balance legacy system stability with modern innovation.

Requirements

We are looking for an individual who brings a deep well of experience and specific skills. Your background should ideally include:

Proven experience as a System Architect or in a similar senior technical leadership role, especially within large scale enterprise environments.
Extensive hands on experience with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, CICS, and VSAM.
Demonstrated expertise in cloud architecture, particularly with AWS, and integrating cloud services with legacy systems.
Strong understanding of API design and development best practices.
Ability to define, document, and enforce architectural standards across diverse technical teams.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
A proactive, problem solving mindset, with a keen eye for detail and system optimization.
Experience in the federal or healthcare domain is highly desirable.
