At Amplitude, we're not just creating the leading AI analytics platform; we're shaping the future of digital experiences for companies like Atlassian and Burger King. Our DevX team is the engine behind this innovation, constantly refining the tools and processes that let our engineers ship code with unprecedented speed and confidence. We're on the hunt for a Staff Software Engineer to join us, someone who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure and application development, ready to architect the systems that accelerate our entire engineering organization. If you're passionate about making a massive impact on developer velocity and love solving complex, systemic challenges from anywhere in the world, this is your chance to shine.

Overview

Amplitude stands as the premier AI analytics platform, empowering over 4,700 customers, from tech giants to global brands, to craft superior products and digital experiences. Our platform, enhanced with powerful AI Agents, helps teams analyze, test, and optimize user journeys with remarkable efficiency. We're not just a top-ranked solution; we're a company driven by values like humility, ownership, a growth mindset, and unwavering customer focus. Our DevX team is central to this mission. We own Amplitude's engineering velocity, spanning build systems, CI/CD pipelines, developer environments, and internal tooling. Think of us as the architects of a sophisticated software factory, dedicated to automating workflows and eliminating manual bottlenecks across our entire engineering lifecycle. This pivotal Staff Software Engineer role is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between infrastructure and application concerns, directly accelerating how our global teams develop, test, and ship code, regardless of their location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural vision for critical components of our developer platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and ease of use.
  • Design and implement robust solutions that enhance our build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and internal developer tools, driving significant improvements in engineering efficiency.
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor for other engineers, guiding best practices in system design, coding standards, and operational excellence.
  • Identify and address systemic bottlenecks in the software development lifecycle, proposing and executing innovative solutions to accelerate our shipping cadence.
  • Collaborate closely with diverse engineering teams to understand their needs and integrate DevX solutions seamlessly into their workflows.
  • Drive continuous improvement in our developer experience, leveraging your expertise in both infrastructure and application layers to foster a culture of speed and quality.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of complex projects, from initial concept through deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements

We're looking for someone who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for developer productivity. To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • Extensive professional experience as a Staff Software Engineer or in a similar senior role, with a strong focus on developer experience, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
  • A deep understanding of software development lifecycles and a proven track record of significantly improving engineering velocity for large organizations.
  • Expertise in designing, building, and maintaining complex build systems, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions), and internal developer tools.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages commonly used in backend and infrastructure development, such as Java, Go, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges across diverse systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, influence engineering teams, and mentor junior engineers effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What You'll Gain

Joining Amplitude's DevX team means more than just a job; it's an opportunity to make a monumental impact. Here's what you can look forward to:

  • Shape the future of engineering at Amplitude: Your contributions will directly accelerate thousands of engineers worldwide, defining how we build and ship industry-leading products.
  • Work with innovative technologies: Engage with state-of-the-art build systems, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure, constantly pushing the boundaries of developer experience.
  • Experience significant professional growth: Lead impactful projects, mentor talented engineers, and expand your technical and leadership capabilities within a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
  • Be part of a values-driven company: Thrive in a culture that champions humility, ownership, continuous learning, and putting our customers first.
  • Enjoy a fully remote, flexible work environment: Collaborate with a global team from anywhere in the world, maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
