The Role: Staff Product Designer

As a Staff Product Designer at Medium, you will play a pivotal role in defining and shaping the product experience from concept to launch. Our designers collaborate closely with engineering and product management across the entire development lifecycle. You will:

Lead design initiatives: Drive significant product areas, tackling complex problems with elegant, user-centric solutions.
Influence strategy: Contribute to product strategy and roadmaps, advocating for user needs and innovative design approaches.
Conduct research and discovery: Partner with product and engineering to understand user behaviors, pain points, and opportunities through qualitative and quantitative methods.
Design and prototype: Create wireframes, flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that clearly communicate design ideas and intentions.
Facilitate collaboration: Work seamlessly with cross-functional teams, guiding discussions, and building consensus around design decisions.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a passionate and experienced product designer with a proven track record of shipping impactful products. You should possess:

Extensive experience: At least 7+ years of experience in product design, demonstrating significant impact and leadership on complex consumer-facing products.
Strong portfolio: A compelling portfolio showcasing your end-to-end design process, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and beautiful visual execution.
Strategic thinker: Ability to operate at a strategic level, contributing to product vision and translating business goals into design solutions.
Systemic approach: Experience designing and working with design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability.
Exceptional communication: Clear and persuasive communication skills, adept at articulating design decisions and rationale to diverse audiences.
User advocacy: A deep empathy for users and a commitment to human-centered design principles.
Prototyping proficiency: Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
