Overview

FedWriters is searching for a passionate Software Developer to be the driving force behind the web applications our company relies on every single day. This is a unique opportunity to take full ownership, from crafting the initial lines of code and managing data, through deployment, and yes, even being the hero who fixes things at 2 a.m. should an issue arise. A critical part of this role involves spearheading the migration of our platforms into Microsoft 365 GCC High and Azure Government environments. This ensures they meet the stringent security requirements demanded by our Department of Defense customers.

You won't just be maintaining existing systems. This is a builder's paradise. You will inherit a robust portfolio of React and TypeScript applications, powered by Python services and PostgreSQL databases, all hosted on modern serverless cloud infrastructure. These applications currently serve our internal teams and are rapidly expanding towards direct customer use, with several already integrating with large language model APIs. Many are poised to transition from prototype data to live, real-world integrations. Your mission will be to harden these existing systems into resilient, production-grade services, complete with comprehensive monitoring, rigorous tests, and streamlined deployment processes. Following that, you will be at the forefront of designing and building the next generation of innovative, AI-driven features, all built upon a secure and compliant foundation.

Key Responsibilities

Take complete, end-to-end ownership of production applications, encompassing code development, data management, deployment pipelines, and post-production support, including critical incident response.
Design, develop, and meticulously maintain highly performant and secure web applications.
Lead the strategic migration and hardening of existing platforms into Microsoft 365 GCC High and Azure Government to meet rigorous security and compliance standards.
Transform prototype systems into robust, production-ready services by implementing comprehensive monitoring, automated testing, and robust deployment strategies.
Innovate and build cutting-edge, AI-driven features leveraging large language model APIs.
Actively collaborate with our executive product owner, contributing directly to product strategy and technical execution.
Proactively identify and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption to critical services.

Requirements

Proven experience as a hands-on software developer, demonstrating significant contributions to production-level applications.
Strong proficiency in modern front-end technologies, particularly React and TypeScript.
Expertise in back-end development using Python and experience with PostgreSQL databases.
Solid understanding of serverless cloud infrastructure and cloud deployment practices.
Familiarity with security requirements for government environments, such as Microsoft 365 GCC High and Azure Government, or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
Track record of hardening applications for production, including implementing effective monitoring, comprehensive testing frameworks, and robust deployment processes.
Experience integrating and working with large language model APIs is a distinct advantage.
Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a meticulous approach to software quality.
