Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines and services that power Samsara’s Connected Operations Cloud.
Drive architectural discussions and decisions for our evolving data platform, ensuring robust, performant, and future proof solutions.
Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver impactful solutions.
Ensure the quality, integrity, and accessibility of critical data sets through rigorous testing and monitoring.
Mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and fostering a culture of technical excellence within the team.
Optimize existing data processing systems for performance and cost efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex data related issues across our platform.

Requirements

Several years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, with a significant focus on large scale data platforms or distributed systems.
Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages, such as Scala, Python, Java, or Go.
Demonstrated experience with distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or Apache Kafka.
Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and experience with technologies such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar cloud data warehouses.
Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services.
Solid grasp of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data governance best practices.
Excellent problem solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote and globally distributed team.
