Overview
If you love building things, breaking things, and protecting massive infrastructures, you might just be the person we are looking for. Canonical is growing its Security Operations team, and we need a Senior Security Operations Engineer who wants to help shape how we defend our platforms and products. You will not just be staring at alerts all day. Instead, you will write custom tools, automate security workflows, hunt down advanced threats, and help elevate everyone around you. Best of all? This is a fully remote role open to talented engineers anywhere in the world.
Key Responsibilities
You will wear many hats on this team, blending operational defense with hardcore software development. Your day-to-day will involve designing and operating our Security Operations Center while pushing the envelope on automation. You will proactively hunt for threats across our global estate, respond to incidents with precision, and engineer custom platforms that make our security posture bulletproof. Because we live in the open source world, you will also have opportunities to share threat intelligence and represent Canonical at industry conferences.
Requirements
We care deeply about practical experience and a track record of getting things done. You should bring a strong background in either security engineering with solid coding skills, or software development with a deep passion for security. Familiarity with site reliability engineering principles is a huge plus, as we expect you to deploy, maintain, and scale the security tools you build. Whether you come from a traditional SOC background or a senior development role, your ability to execute autonomously and mentor peers will set you apart.
What You'll Gain
Stepping into this role means joining a globally distributed team of passionate engineers who are defining the future of open source security. You will have immense autonomy to tackle complex challenges, build tools from scratch, and influence security architecture at a massive scale. Canonical offers competitive compensation, continuous learning opportunities, and the chance to make a lasting impact on the broader open source ecosystem.
