The Opportunity: Senior Quantity Surveyor
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in the financial viability and commercial success of our ambitious construction and infrastructure projects. We are seeking a meticulous and strategic individual to oversee all facets of project cost management, from initial estimation to final account settlement. Key Responsibilities
This comprehensive role encompasses a wide array of critical duties designed to ensure financial oversight and control throughout the project lifecycle:
- Cost Estimation & Documentation: Prepare intricate cost estimates, develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and compile robust tender documentation for new and prospective projects. Your accuracy here forms the bedrock of project planning.
- Budget Monitoring & Control: Proactively monitor and manage project budgets, delivering regular, insightful reports on variances, cost-to-complete projections, and overall financial health.
- Value Engineering & Optimization: Conduct thorough cost-benefit analyses and implement value engineering principles to identify efficiencies and optimize project profitability without compromising quality.
- Contract Administration: Skillfully administer construction contracts, ensuring absolute compliance with all legal and organizational terms, mitigating risks, and safeguarding the company’s interests.
- Procurement Management: Oversee the end-to-end procurement process for subcontractors and suppliers, including expert negotiation of rates, terms, and contractual agreements to secure optimal value.
- Valuations & Settlements: Handle the diligent assessment and timely settlement of interim valuations and final accounts, ensuring fairness and accuracy in all financial dealings.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Liaise closely with site managers and the engineering department to meticulously monitor progress against established cost and time schedules, fostering seamless project execution.
- Site Verification & Audit: Conduct regular site visits to verify work progress, confirm material usage aligns with budget allocations, and address any discrepancies promptly.
- Commercial Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and assess commercial risks that could potentially impact project timelines or margins, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate them effectively.
- Financial Forecasting: Provide accurate financial forecasts and comprehensive cash flow management reports to senior management, enabling informed decision-making.
- Document Control & Standardization: Maintain rigorous document control for all commercial agreements and site variations, ensuring all procurement and billing processes are standardized, transparent, and auditable.
Who We Are Looking For
We are searching for a highly qualified and experienced professional who meets the following criteria:
- Professional Membership: Mandatory and valid registration with the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS). This demonstrates your commitment to professional standards and ethical practice.
- Extensive Experience: 8–10 years of robust professional experience in quantity surveying, with a critical focus on large-scale road construction and significant building infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills:
- Contract Law Expertise: Demonstrable expertise in contract law, particularly with widely recognized standards such as FIDIC and JCT.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in industry-standard cost estimation software, coupled with expert-level skills in MS Excel for complex financial modeling and analysis.
- Technical Interpretation: A strong ability to accurately read, interpret, and translate complex engineering designs and technical drawings into commercial terms.
