Overview

The GenAI Security team, a vital part of Reddit’s broader Security, Privacy, Assurance, and Corporate Engineering organization, is entrusted with a critical mission: to secure and protect all of Reddit's AI traffic and its rapidly increasing adoption of Generative AI technology by default. Our work involves architecting zero-trust, defense-in-depth systems that meticulously verify identities, permissions, data access, and the semantic intent across complex AI workflows. A cornerstone of this effort is the development of practical, high-quality machine learning models designed to detect and proactively prevent a spectrum of security risks. These include prompt injection, sophisticated jailbreak attempts, sensitive data exfiltration, ensuring safe model behavior, identifying anomalous usage patterns, and preventing unauthorized agent actions. This is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy advanced machine learning models specifically tailored to identify and mitigate GenAI security threats.
Research and implement innovative techniques for detecting prompt injection, jailbreaking, data exfiltration, and other adversarial attacks on large language models and GenAI systems.
Collaborate closely with security engineers, product teams, and AI researchers to integrate security measures throughout the GenAI development lifecycle.
Analyze complex security incidents and anomalies related to AI usage, translating insights into actionable model improvements.
Contribute to the strategic vision and roadmap for GenAI security at Reddit, driving the adoption of best practices and cutting-edge solutions.
Evaluate and select appropriate ML frameworks, tools, and platforms to build scalable and robust security detection systems.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.

Requirements

Significant professional experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, with a strong focus on applying ML to security problems or complex systems.
Demonstrated expertise in machine learning fundamentals, including deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and neural network architectures.
Proficiency in a major programming language like Python, alongside experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Understanding of security principles and common vulnerabilities, particularly as they relate to generative AI and large language models.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and deploying ML models in production environments.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets, identifying patterns and insights relevant to security detection.
