As a Senior Backend Engineer on our Platform team, you will serve as an individual contributor, collaborating closely with our Platform Lead who defines our technical strategy. This is a high-impact position within a small, agile team that owns the core infrastructure, developer experience, and security foundations for our entire engineering organization. Expect a broad scope of work and significant autonomy as you drive critical initiatives from initial concept through to successful deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable backend systems that form the backbone of our platform.
Spearhead substantial, cross-cutting technical initiatives, guiding them from early analysis to final implementation.
Drive enhancements to our developer experience, making it easier for engineers across Apaleo to build and innovate.
Elevate our platform's security posture through thoughtful design and implementation of foundational security measures.
Collaborate with the Platform Lead to define technical direction and architectural patterns for the core infrastructure.
Troubleshoot complex issues and provide expertise to support the stability and performance of our production systems.
Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices in a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

Several years of professional experience as a Senior Backend Engineer, particularly within platform or infrastructure teams.
Deep expertise in designing, building, and operating highly scalable, distributed systems.
Proven ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and drive them to successful resolution independently.
Strong understanding of cloud native architectures, infrastructure as code principles, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
A solid grasp of security best practices and experience implementing security foundations within a platform context.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing system improvements.
Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating technical decisions and collaborating effectively with diverse teams.
Comfortable working in a lean team environment where ownership of DevOps and QA aspects is shared.
