Overview

Espresso Systems is pioneering foundational infrastructure for a truly interconnected web3. We are the lead developers behind the Espresso Network, the first base layer designed specifically to empower rollups with essential capabilities. These include fast, secure finality for user transactions and seamless composability across different rollups. Today's rollups often operate in isolation, leading to fragmentation. Espresso changes this by providing secure, real time visibility across integrated chains, allowing applications to execute cross chain interactions instantly, bypassing slow settlement times or reliance on centralized sequencers. Our network is already live on mainnet, delivering robust confirmations and data availability, with further decentralization options for rollups.

Key Responsibilities

As our Security Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the Espresso Network and its growing ecosystem. Your responsibilities will involve:

Leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of security architecture for our blockchain protocols and related infrastructure.
Conducting comprehensive threat modeling and risk assessments across our systems.
Overseeing and collaborating with external security auditors, ensuring robust review processes.
Developing and enforcing secure coding standards and best practices for our engineering teams.
Establishing and managing our incident response protocols, preparing for and effectively addressing potential security events.
Mentoring and guiding engineers on security principles, fostering a strong security culture throughout the organization.
Evaluating and recommending new security technologies and approaches to enhance our defense mechanisms.
Staying at the forefront of blockchain security research and emerging threats to proactively protect our network.

Requirements

We're seeking someone with a proven track record and a deep passion for security in the blockchain space. Ideal candidates will possess:

Significant professional experience (7+ years preferred) in security engineering roles, with a focus on distributed systems or blockchain technologies.
Expertise in cryptography, secure protocol design, and common web3 attack vectors.
Strong understanding of blockchain architectures, consensus mechanisms, and smart contract security.
Experience with security audits, penetration testing, and vulnerability management.
Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language such as Rust, Go, or C++.
A demonstrated ability to lead security initiatives, influence engineering decisions, and mentor team members.
Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex security concepts to diverse audiences.
