Nigeria’s renewable energy space is undergoing an unprecedented boom, but navigating this rapidly evolving sector requires deep expertise and strategic foresight. To unlock the immense potential of the market—whether by targeting Commercial & Industrial (C&I) clients to displace diesel costs, leveraging the newly introduced NERC Net Billing Regulations, or deploying innovative Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) residential models—investors require robust data and strategic guidance. A professional, rigorous feasibility study is the vital bridge between capital and high-yield sustainable returns.
To facilitate this transition, boQS Ltd has announced a Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a highly qualified Business Development & Feasibility Consultant (Solar / Renewable Energy). This contract-based role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced consultant to shape a greenfield entry into Nigeria's vibrant solar energy sector.
Role Overview and Objective
An ambitious investor is seeking a deeply knowledgeable Renewable Energy Consultant to guide their greenfield entry into the Nigerian solar power landscape. Beyond high-level interest, this consultancy focuses on executing a detailed feasibility study, evaluating high-yield entry niches, and developing an investor-ready, comprehensive Business Plan and Go-to-Market (GTM) Strategy.
- Location: Nigeria (Remote with occasional field/market visits)
- Engagement Type: Contract / Project-Based (Phased Deliverables)
- Contract Period: 3 months
Ideal Consultant Profile
The successful consultant will bring a unique blend of technical understanding and commercial acumen specifically tailored to the West African power landscape. Key requirements include:
- Experience: A minimum of 7–10 years in the Nigerian power sector, with at least 5 years dedicated to solar PV development, off-grid systems, mini-grids, or commercial solar installations.
- Track Record: Proven experience conducting bankable feasibility studies and drafting successful business plans for operational solar companies or clean-energy startups in Nigeria.
- Regulatory Acumen: Deep familiarity with the Nigerian Electricity Act, NERC regulations, and emerging state-level electricity frameworks.
- Financial Literacy: Strong capability in building complex financial models, calculating Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), and forecasting capital expenditure (CapEx) and operational expenditure (OpEx).
Scope of Work
The consultancy is structured across three primary phases, taking the project from initial concept to a structured, launch-ready business model:
Phase 1: Market Assessment & Niche Selection
- Analyze current market dynamics, supply chain logistics, and competitor landscape.
- Evaluate and rank the financial viability of distinct business models, including:
- Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar leasing.
- Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) residential systems.
- Solar component distribution, local assembly, and retail.
- Mini-grids or leveraging the new net-billing/prosumer frameworks.
- Identify the highest-yielding geographic and demographic target markets across Nigeria.
Phase 2: Financial & Regulatory Modeling
- Build a comprehensive 5-year financial model including cash flow projections, break-even analysis, and payback periods.
- Provide accurate assessments of startup capital requirements, procurement logistics (tariffs, local assembly advantages vs. direct importation), and working capital needs.
- Outline a step-by-step regulatory roadmap, detailing CAC licensing, NERC permits, and state-level compliance.
Phase 3: The Final Business Plan
- Consolidate all market and financial insights into a formal, investor-ready Business Plan.
- Develop an actionable Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy, recommend technical partnerships, and establish a risk mitigation matrix addressing foreign exchange fluctuations, battery degradation, and payment default risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct primary and secondary market research, including stakeholder interviews or site visits where necessary.
- Deliver bi-weekly progress updates and strategic presentations to the investor.
- Provide objective, data-backed recommendations—even if the data suggests pivoting away from initial assumptions.
- Present the final business plan and defend the financial models in a final strategic alignment session.
Method of Application
Interested consultants are invited to send the following documents to bosqltd@yahoo.com by 31 July 2026:
- A brief Capability Statement highlighting relevant past projects in the Nigerian solar sector.
