The Opportunity: Quality Control Officer
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Quality Control Officer to play a pivotal role in ensuring that all Coleman products not only meet but exceed industry standards, regulatory requirements, and our stringent internal quality benchmarks. In this critical position, you will be at the forefront of quality assurance, from inspecting raw materials to monitoring production, conducting comprehensive tests, and meticulously maintaining quality records to guarantee product excellence.
Key Responsibilities: What You'll Do
As a Quality Control Officer, your responsibilities will span across several vital areas:
Quality Assurance & Inspection
- Conduct rigorous inspections of raw materials (e.g., copper, aluminum, insulation materials) to verify strict compliance with company specifications.
- Monitor every stage of cable production, proactively identifying and addressing any deviations from standard operating procedures.
- Perform both random and routine quality checks on semi-finished and finished cables to ensure adherence to both internal and external standards.
- Implement sophisticated sampling procedures and statistical analysis to accurately assess production quality.
Testing & Compliance
- Execute a range of mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests on low and high-voltage cables, including conductor resistance, insulation resistance, high-voltage withstand, flame retardancy, fire resistance, tensile strength, and elongation tests.
- Ensure that all testing protocols are in full compliance with recognized international standards such as IEC, NIS, SON, and ISO 9001.
- Collaborate closely with the standards and certification teams to maintain continuous regulatory compliance.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints related to quality issues, ensuring effective corrective actions are swiftly implemented.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing processes to significantly enhance quality and reduce defects.
- Develop and rigorously enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all quality assurance and control activities.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all inspections, test results, and quality incidents.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on quality performance metrics to senior management, providing actionable insights.
- Conduct thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and work collaboratively with production teams to implement robust Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
Supplier & Material Quality Management
- Evaluate and approve new suppliers and materials, guaranteeing they meet our exacting quality standards.
- Conduct regular supplier audits and work proactively with vendors to address any material quality issues.
- Ensure complete traceability of all materials, from procurement through production to final product delivery.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure all quality control processes are fully aligned with stringent safety regulations and environmental policies.
- Work closely with the Health & Safety team to maintain an exemplary safe working environment.
- Actively participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance training sessions.
Training & Development
- Provide impactful training sessions for production staff on quality standards, best practices, and defect prevention.
- Stay abreast of industry advancements and recommend continuous improvements in testing methodologies.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive quality control manuals and training materials.
Qualifications & Experience: Who We're Looking For
Educational Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related technical field.
- Additional certifications in Quality Control, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or Total Quality Management (TQM) are a distinct advantage.
Experience
- 1-5 years of dedicated experience in a quality control role, with a strong preference for candidates from the cable manufacturing or electrical components industry.
- Hands-on experience with specialized cable testing equipment, such as high-voltage testers, tensile testing machines, and insulation resistance meters.
- Strong foundational knowledge of cable manufacturing processes, including extrusion, stranding, and sheathing.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in essential quality control tools, including Statistical Process Control, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, production blueprints, and complex technical specifications.
- Familiarity with local and international cable manufacturing standards (IEC, NIS, SON, ISO 9001).
