Role Overview
As our Principal Technical Safety Engineer, you will serve as a cornerstone of our technical safety and loss prevention strategy. You will be responsible for ensuring that our facility integrity is uncompromised and that all operational hazards are systematically reduced to ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable). This role is perfect for a strategic thinker who is comfortable managing high-stakes safety assessments and driving regulatory compliance across diverse engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Studies & Assessments: Facilitate and review critical technical safety studies, including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL/LOPA, QRA, FEHA, and EERA.
- Loss Prevention Engineering: Oversee design documents concerning active and passive fire protection, hazardous area classification, and fire & gas mapping.
- Safety Cases & Compliance: Author and maintain formal Safety Cases, HSE philosophies, and Performance Standards for Safety-Critical Elements.
- Mentorship & QA: Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers, perform rigorous peer reviews, and oversee project budget management.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: Work hand-in-hand with process, mechanical, and layout engineers to eliminate hazards at the source.
Qualifications and Expertise
To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (a Master’s in Safety and Risk Management is highly preferred).
- Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in technical safety and loss prevention within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or EPCI sectors.
- Software Mastery: Proficiency in PHAST, BowTieXP, PHA-Pro, and familiarity with international codes like API, OSHA, and NFPA.
- Leadership: Proven ability to interface with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders while making time-critical decisions.
