As a Senior Postgres Engineer on our dedicated Postgres Team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding the stability and functionality of our hosted Postgres offering. This means working closely with customers, partners, product teams, engineering colleagues, and our support and success teams. Your contributions will ensure we maintain a secure, stable, performant, and highly functional Postgres foundation. This is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity, ideal for someone who excels in an asynchronous, fast-paced setting and is passionate about building developer tools that scale to millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

In this dynamic role, you will:

Build and maintain PostgreSQL extensions using C and Rust, requiring a deep understanding of database internals such as the parser, planner, WAL mechanics, and MVCC.
Diagnose and adeptly resolve complex issues within our managed PostgreSQL deployments. This includes troubleshooting custom extension failures, performing core dump analysis, and identifying and alleviating performance bottlenecks.
Take full ownership of idempotent deployment pipelines, ensuring smooth and reliable operations across thousands of running PostgreSQL instances. This includes maintaining robust processes for updates and configurations.
Collaborate extensively with various teams, including product, engineering, support, and customer success, to deliver a world-class Postgres experience.

Requirements

Significant professional experience as a Postgres Engineer or a similar role, with a strong emphasis on PostgreSQL internals.
Proven expertise in building and maintaining PostgreSQL extensions, ideally with experience in C and Rust.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve intricate database issues, including performance tuning and incident response.
Experience managing and deploying PostgreSQL at scale, understanding the complexities of large-scale database operations.
A solid understanding of database security best practices.
Excellent problem solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote, asynchronous environment across different time zones.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
