Are you an experienced physician looking for a fully remote role where you can make a tangible impact on public safety? Akahi Associates is seeking a dedicated Occupational Medicine Physician to join us as a Reviewing Medical Officer supporting the Drug Enforcement Administration. In this position, you get to evaluate medical exams and health documents to ensure law enforcement professionals are medically cleared and fit to safely perform their demanding duties. Because this is a 1099 independent contractor position, you enjoy incredible professional flexibility while working entirely from home from anywhere in the world. We offer a competitive hourly rate of $140 for a standard Monday through Friday schedule averaging 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a Reviewing Medical Officer to evaluate occupational medical exams and associated health records.
- Provide expert medical recommendations to the DEA regarding an applicant or employee's ability to perform job duties safely.
- Complete comprehensive medical reviews and submit recommendations within 30 days of receiving paperwork.
- Handle specialized case reviews covering medical clearances, medical surveillance, reasonable accommodations, and medical review boards.
- Communicate daily with the DEA Health Services Unit staff to align on work priorities and urgent cases.
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in any US state or territory.
- Board certification in occupational medicine or a closely related medical specialty.
- Strong clinical evaluation skills with a thorough understanding of occupational health standards.
- Ability to manage a steady caseload and meet strict 30-day review deadlines consistently.
- Reliable remote work setup with high speed internet to handle secure daily communications.
