Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN) invites applications for a challenging and rewarding position as a Miller at our Niger Mills facility, a vital part of the Golden Penny Foods family. With a rich history spanning over 54 years, FMN has consistently led the wheat milling industry in Nigeria, establishing itself as a cornerstone of the nation's food sector. Our flagship brand, Golden Penny, is not just a name but a symbol of quality and trust, cherished by bakers, confectioneries, and consumers alike.
We have continuously invested in state-of-the-art milling infrastructure, with over N25 billion in the last seven years, to maintain our competitive edge and ensure we operate some of the largest and most efficient single-site mills globally. Our Apapa, Lagos facility alone boasts 10 integrated mills with a rated capacity exceeding 8,000 metric tons per day. These mills are designed with multi-level operations to optimize gravity in the sifting process, significantly reducing energy consumption. Furthermore, our dedication to quality is evident in our specialized mills for different wheat varieties, ensuring consistent product excellence for half a century.
Beyond milling, FMN is also a leader in sustainable operations, having made significant investments in power generation. Our Apapa Mills are equipped with 11 GE Jenbacher gas generators providing 30 megawatts of capacity, complemented by a 30-megawatt diesel plant as backup, ensuring uninterrupted production and operational efficiency.
The Opportunity: Miller at Niger Mills
As a Miller, you will play a critical role in upholding FMN's commitment to excellence, quality, and operational efficiency. Your primary purpose will be to run the mill efficiently, consistently achieving product quality that not only meets customer expectations but also surpasses the company's rigorous targets. Key Responsibilities:
- Champion a positive Health & Safety culture within the milling environment.
- Effectively manage raw materials to ensure optimal efficiency throughout the milling process for both intermediate and finished products.
- Support the Chief Miller in driving peak performance of the milling operations.
- Guarantee the production of high-quality flour and co-products through vigilant in-process checks, strict adherence to HACCP and GMP standards, and prompt resolution of any quality deviations.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the production team through comprehensive on-the-job training to enhance milling skills and expertise.
- Maintain meticulous production monitoring, documentation, and record-keeping for operational transparency and compliance.
- Ensure the highest standards of hygiene and housekeeping practices are consistently maintained within the production environment.
- Proactively identify equipment faults and effectively coordinate with maintenance stakeholders to minimize unplanned downtime, reduce loss-time, and control waste generation.
- Implement effective cost control measures across milling inputs, energy consumption, and manpower utilization.
Who We're Looking For (The Person):
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who embodies the following qualities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and effective interaction.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a highly organized approach to tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to navigate operational challenges.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software for reporting and analysis.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this pivotal role, candidates should possess:
- A First Degree in Engineering or Science, OR Certification in Intermediate & Final NABIM.
- A Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Milling Technology & Quality Control.
Experience:
Candidates must demonstrate a robust background in the field:
- A minimum of 5 years of cognate experience in a similar milling role.
- Membership in the National Association of British & Irish Millers (NABIM) is highly desirable.
