FMN is currently seeking an experienced and proactive Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer to join the Golden Penny Foods team. This vital role is centered around maintaining a world-class safe working environment, minimizing workplace injuries, and ensuring absolute compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations.
The Purpose of the Role
The primary mandate of the HSE Officer is to drive safety objectives, promote a zero-harm culture, and guarantee adherence to local and international health, safety, and environmental regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design & Implementation: Design, implement, and communicate comprehensive HSE management systems that align with OHSAS ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 standards.
- Compliance & Advisory: Prioritize and provide timely advisory support on OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Strategy Development: Formulate strategic plans and programs to achieve FMN’s annual occupational health, safety, and environmental performance targets.
- Risk Mitigation: Develop and execute operational management strategies designed to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.
- Auditing & Monitoring: Supervise the plant’s active safety programs and facilitate regular internal audits of all safety management systems.
- HSE Culture Advocacy: Promote active safety practices across the organization, ensuring staff understand and strictly comply with environmental and safety rules.
- Policy Review: Conduct periodic evaluations of existing safety rules and recommend practical adjustments where necessary to match evolving industry practices.
Requirements & Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess the following academic and professional qualifications:
- Education: B.Sc. or HND in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Certifications: NEBOSH Certificate and active membership in the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) will be a distinct advantage.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector.
- Technical Qualification: Occupational Health & Safety qualification (HSE Level 3).
Key Competencies Needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- In-depth, practical knowledge of occupational health and safety practices and associated legislative frameworks at the national level.
- Proficiency in executing comprehensive occupational health and safety risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies.
