As the HSE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our operations remain safe, sustainable, and fully compliant with local and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
As the HSE Manager, you will oversee the HSE department, designing and executing strategies that minimize risks and promote occupational health. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Departmental Leadership: Manage the HSE department and drive the implementation of corporate HSE policies across all operational levels.
- Standard Implementation: Introduce and implement advanced HSE procedures that align with recognized international and local standards.
- Operational Auditing: Conduct regular audits of internal operations to ensure safety standards are actively maintained and consistently improved.
- Strategic Planning: Define, develop, and facilitate the implementation of critical HSE plans, including environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, safety and health management, fire response, and crisis management protocols.
- Contractor & Subcontractor Management: Partner with contractors to align their performance with company expectations and conduct thorough safety audits on subcontractors.
- Budgeting & Approval: Prepare and manage project budgets and schedules specifically dedicated to health, safety, environmental, and socio-economic initiatives, securing necessary organizational approvals.
- Risk Mitigation: Participate in comprehensive project reviews and site audits to assess potential HSE risks and implement effective mitigation measures.
- Team Supervision: Mentor, coordinate, and supervise the activities of HSE Executives to ensure collective department success.
- Training & Education: Identify and institute critical training programs, including general HSE training and First Aid courses, to empower staff.
- Reporting & Data Analysis: Maintain detailed HSE statistical records, review incident/accident reports, analyze data trends, and provide constructive feedback on investigation quality.
Qualifications & Experience Required
To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, and a passion for workplace safety. Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field of study.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of active experience working with international HSE standards, codes, and practices, with specific experience operating within the Nigerian regulatory landscape.
- Professional Credentials: Active membership in relevant and recognized HSE professional bodies.
- Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities with a strong track record of driving cultural change and fostering a proactive safety mindset.
