Head, POS Hardware & Repair at Moniepoint Inc.

Moniepoint Inc. is one of Africa's leading financial technology companies, dedicated to digitizing the continent’s real economy. By building a robust financial ecosystem, Moniepoint provides thousands of businesses with the critical payment, banking, credit, and business management tools they need to thrive. At the heart of this extensive network are point-of-sale (POS) terminals, making hardware reliability a foundational pillar of their business success.

About the Role: Head, POS Hardware & Repair

Moniepoint is seeking a visionary, highly technical leader to step into the role of Head of POS Hardware & Repair. This is a strategic, high-impact leadership position focused on ensuring the overall quality, reliability, and serviceability of all POS hardware devices utilized across their network. As the primary technical liaison with global POS manufacturers, you will directly influence hardware design, component selection, and structural optimizations to withstand the rugged conditions of the Nigerian market, while leading all repair operations to maintain operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of POS Hardware & Repair, your duties will span strategic design auditing, local market adaptation, and operational leadership. Your core areas of focus will include:

1. POS Hardware Quality Assurance & Design Strategy

  • Manufacturer Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for international POS hardware manufacturers, facilitating smooth engineering communication.
  • Design Adherence & Vetting: Audit and review manufacturer design specifications and component lists to ensure absolute alignment with Moniepoint's recommended designs and high-quality standards.
  • Design for Serviceability (DFS): Provide proactive recommendations on material changes and design updates to simplify repair processes, lower component costs, and decrease Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Component Reliability: Select and approve crucial components (e.g., thermal printers, screens, and long-life batteries) based on detailed performance data and long-term supply stability.
  • Failure Analysis: Collaborate with data and engineering teams to conduct deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on repeating hardware failures, translating findings into mandatory design upgrades for manufacturers.

2. Local Market Adaptation & Relevance (Nigeria Focus)

  • Market Insight: Maintain an active, field-level understanding of the unique environmental, power, and logistics challenges present in the Nigerian market.
  • Design Customization: Translate local usage patterns and environmental factors (dust, heat, power fluctuations) into hard engineering requirements to build ruggedized devices.
  • Spare Parts Strategy: Define, validate, and secure high-demand spare parts packages from manufacturers to support rapid, cost-effective local repairs.

3. POS Repair Operations Oversight

  • Operational Leadership: Define the overarching operational strategy for both internal service centers and outsourced repair providers.
  • Performance Tracking: Set and enforce high-performance standards, prioritizing KPIs such as MTTR and First-Time Fix Rates.
  • Standardization: Establish and roll out standardized quality control (QC) protocols, debugging guides, and repair workflows across all channels.
  • Technical Training: Overside and approve continuous training programs and technical certifications for repair technicians, ensuring access to cutting-edge diagnostic equipment.
  • Data-Driven Reporting: Build a robust tracking system for repair costs, part inventory consumption, and component failure rates to inform future design cycles.

Required Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this challenging and rewarding role, you will need a strong background in hardware systems, technical management, and team leadership:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience in hardware engineering, quality control, or product service management, with at least 3 years in a direct leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of embedded systems, PCB diagnostics, electronic repair methodologies, and electronic testing tools, ideally within the POS terminal or embedded payment device space.
  • Manufacturer Management: Proven experience working with global hardware suppliers, managing technical relationships, and executing design-to-production audits.
  • Operational Acumen: Strong experience managing service centers or complex repair networks with strict metrics-driven environments (MTTR, cost optimization).
  • Market Context (Highly Preferred): Solid understanding of deploying and servicing electronics under emerging market conditions, specifically in Nigeria or similar regions.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, analytical reasoning, and technical communication capabilities.
