Overview
211 Broward operates a free, anonymous, 24-hour helpline, serving as a critical resource for individuals facing various life challenges. We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Helpline Counselor to join our team. This is a full-time, fully remote position for Florida residents only, offering a permanent 40-hour work week. Your schedule will include a dedicated block of weekend overnight shifts, ensuring our community has access to support around the clock. You will connect callers with vital community services, provide crisis de-escalation, and offer empathetic listening. While remote, you will be an integral part of a supportive team dedicated to essential community services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide empathetic, non-judgmental support and crisis intervention to callers experiencing various challenges.
- Skillfully de-escalate callers in crisis situations, guiding them towards stability and safety.
- Assess caller needs comprehensively and connect them with appropriate community resources and services.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all interactions, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation.
- Adhere to established protocols and procedures for handling sensitive calls and information.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Continuously update knowledge of available community resources and support systems.
Requirements
We are looking for individuals who meet the following essential criteria:
- Florida Residency: You must be a current resident living within the state of Florida. This is a mandatory requirement.
- Education: Hold at minimum an associate's degree from an accredited university.
- Experience: Possess at least four (4) years of combined education and relevant work experience. Relevant experience includes roles in counseling, social work, crisis intervention, mental health support, or similar fields where you have directly assisted individuals in need.
- Availability for Training: Be available remotely during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, for nine (9) weeks of initial training. This comprehensive training program is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
- Unique Schedule Commitment: You must agree to work 10-hour overnight shifts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as a core part of your regular schedule. Additionally, you will work one weekday of your choosing from 9 AM to 7 PM.
- Crisis De-escalation Skills: Demonstrate a proven ability and genuine interest in de-escalating callers experiencing crisis.
- Background & Drug Screening: Be able to successfully pass a Level Two (2) DCF background screening and a drug test.
- Technical Readiness: Possess a reliable internet connection, a quiet home workspace, and the necessary technical aptitude for remote work.
