Engineering Manager, Red Team
At DoorDash, we’re not just connecting people with their favorite meals; we’re building a multi sided marketplace that touches millions of lives daily. This means our security challenges are as vast and exciting as our platform itself. We’re searching for a dynamic offensive security leader to join our mission critical Red Team. If you’re a passionate strategist who loves getting hands on, ready to dive deep into complex systems, and eager to shape the future of security for a global brand, this is your chance to make a monumental impact.
Overview
DoorDash’s Red Team actively seeks out critical attack paths before real adversaries ever can. Our work spans the entire adversary simulation lifecycle, from carefully scoping threat informed engagements and executing realistic attack chains, to collaborating closely with engineering and detection teams to effectively close any gaps we uncover. Our attack surface is incredibly diverse, encompassing consumer and merchant data, sophisticated payment systems, intricate driver logistics, and the robust cloud based infrastructure holding it all together. We need an offensive security expert who stays deeply connected to the technical work. As the Engineering Manager for the Red Team, you will guide an existing team, enhance its capabilities, grow our talent, and forge vital partnerships that translate red team findings into tangible engineering improvements. This is a role for a leader who coaches while remaining hands on, someone who sets the strategic direction while staying involved with engagement scoping, tradecraft development, and tooling decisions. You will report directly to the Director of Global Security Services for a fully remote opportunity, accessible worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the red team’s comprehensive strategic roadmap, including engagement cadence, target prioritization, and long term objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and empower a high performing team of offensive security engineers, fostering their growth and skill development.
- Drive the expansion of the team’s headcount, actively recruiting and onboarding top tier talent.
- Build and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with engineering, product, and detection teams to ensure findings lead to proactive security enhancements.
- Stay hands on with red team engagements, contributing to tradecraft innovation, tooling development, and precise engagement scoping.
- Translate complex technical risks into clear, actionable insights for various stakeholders across the organization.
- Oversee the end to end execution of adversary simulation exercises, from planning through post engagement analysis and reporting.
- Champion a culture of continuous learning, improvement, and innovation within the security organization.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in offensive security, with a proven track record of leadership or management within a red team or similar function.
- Deep expertise in adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), along with a strong understanding of common attack vectors against modern web applications, mobile platforms, and cloud environments.
- Demonstrated ability to strategically plan, execute, and report on complex red team engagements.
- Strong technical background in areas such as penetration testing, vulnerability research, exploit development, or security architecture review.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure and experience securing their services.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and collaborating effectively with technical and non technical audiences.
- A history of building, scaling, and optimizing security programs or teams.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., OSCP, OSCE, SANS GXPN) are a plus, but practical experience is key.
What You'll Gain
- The opportunity to make a significant security impact on a massive global platform used by millions every day.
- Lead and grow a world class team of highly skilled offensive security professionals.
- Work within a dynamic, fast paced environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning.
- Directly influence DoorDash’s overall security posture and protect critical data and systems.
- A truly remote, flexible work environment that supports a healthy work life balance.
