At StackAdapt, we handle hundreds of billions of automated optimizations every second, and behind that engine is a brilliant global workforce. We are currently looking for an Employment Counsel to anchor our Canadian employment law function while jumping into other international markets as needed. If you love variety, strategic problem solving, and working alongside a people-first HR team, this fully remote worldwide opportunity might just be your next big career move.
Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director, Employment Counsel, you will step into a collaborative environment where your voice matters. This role is crafted for an adaptable legal professional with a few years of hands-on experience who wants broad ownership over advisory work, compliance, dispute resolution, and cross-functional projects. You will guide our leadership team through every stage of the employee journey, helping us scale globally while staying deeply compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner daily with the People and Culture team to advise on hiring, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding practices.
- Draft, review, and continuously improve employment agreements, contractor arrangements, and internal workplace policies tailored to Canadian and international jurisdictions.
- Navigate complex employment disputes, manage external counsel when necessary, and mitigate potential legal risks proactively.
- Support global expansion efforts by researching local labor laws and advising on remote work compliance across multiple countries.
- Design and deliver practical training sessions for managers on employment standards, workplace investigations, and leadership best practices.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree with active membership in good standing with a Canadian provincial law society.
- Three or more years of dedicated experience practicing employment law, preferably split between a reputable law firm and an in-house legal department.
- Deep working knowledge of Canadian employment standards, human rights legislation, and common law principles.
- Familiarity with international employment frameworks or a strong eagerness to learn global labor regulations quickly.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate nuanced legal risks into clear, actionable advice for business leaders.
