Overview

Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We offer a comprehensive backend solution, encompassing Database, Authentication, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime capabilities, and Vector Search. All our services are deeply integrated and meticulously designed to scale with incredible growth.

Our Edge Functions are server-side TypeScript functions, globally distributed and positioned right at the edge, very close to your users. They power critical use cases like webhook receivers, advanced AI inferences, dynamic OG image generation, and real-time bots for platforms such as Slack or Discord. These functions are built on top of Supabase Edge Runtime, an open-source, Deno-based runtime written in Rust, capable of executing JavaScript, TypeScript, and WebAssembly services. Our ambition is to enable developers to construct truly global applications by seamlessly distributing both compute power and data around the world. We believe that infrastructure complexities, including regions, cold starts, CPU, and memory provisioning, should become invisible, allowing developers to concentrate purely on iterating their business logic. We are actively seeking experienced, passionate engineers to help us advance this bold vision.

Key Responsibilities

Evolving the Supabase Edge Runtime: This open-source, Rust-based host is crucial. You will enhance its capabilities for running the Deno isolate, managing the main and user runtime split, and ensuring robust performance.
Designing and implementing new features for Edge Functions, from conceptualization to deployment, making them more powerful and user-friendly.
Optimizing the performance, reliability, and security of our globally distributed function execution environment.
Contributing actively to the open-source Supabase Edge Runtime project, engaging with the community, and reviewing contributions.
Collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to integrate Edge Functions seamlessly with other Supabase services, such as Auth, Storage, and Database.
Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues within a distributed, high-performance system.
Staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies in serverless computing, WebAssembly, and Rust.

Requirements

Significant professional experience working with Rust in production environments.
Demonstrated expertise in designing, building, and operating distributed systems.
Strong understanding of runtime environments, such as Deno, Node.js, or similar, particularly with JavaScript/TypeScript execution.
Familiarity with containerization technologies and cloud infrastructure principles.
A solid grasp of low-level systems programming, networking, and performance optimization techniques.
Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects is highly valued.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote-first, globally distributed team.
A passion for developer experience and building tools that empower others.
