Our dedicated Music Mission team builds tools and services that enable creation, promotion, expression, and monetization at scale. This particular team focuses intently on making music videos easily discoverable and deeply meaningful for artists and fans alike. We're developing scalable, intelligent infrastructure that constantly evolves with our vast catalog, creating personalized music video playlists, carefully categorizing content, and learning what listeners love to ensure that content reaches the perfect audience. As a Backend Engineer here, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of listeners interact with music videos on Spotify, collaborating closely with Data Engineers, other Backend Engineers, and partners across product and design. This is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity, welcoming talent from across the globe.

Key Responsibilities

Building and running production backend systems that significantly improve how listeners discover and enjoy music videos.
Designing, developing, and evolving scalable backend services and APIs to support high-traffic parts of the Spotify application.
Developing and maintaining robust Java services and Scio data pipelines that are used by millions of listeners every single day.
Partnering closely with product managers to define and deliver innovative solutions for our users.

Requirements

To thrive in this role, we expect you to bring:

Significant professional experience building and running scalable backend services in a production environment.
Strong proficiency in Java, including experience with its ecosystem and best practices.
Proven ability to design and develop robust APIs and distributed systems.
Familiarity with data processing pipelines and technologies, ideally Scio or Apache Beam.
A solid understanding of cloud platforms, with a preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and data engineering.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and a genuine passion for delivering high-quality, impactful software.
