Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Associate Director to lead our critical initiatives in Data Governance, FAIR principles, and AI-Readiness. This is a fully remote, worldwide opportunity, allowing you to contribute from wherever you thrive best. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing comprehensive strategies that enhance the integrity, usability, and strategic value of Amgen’s vast scientific data landscape. Your work will directly empower our research and development teams, accelerating discoveries that improve patient outcomes globally.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of robust data governance frameworks specifically tailored for scientific and clinical data, ensuring compliance and data quality across the organization.
Champion the adoption and operationalization of FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) for diverse data types, building a culture of data excellence.
Develop forward-thinking strategies and roadmaps to ensure Amgen’s data assets are optimized and prepared for advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, IT, Legal, and Compliance, to align data strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Influence and educate stakeholders on data best practices, governance policies, and the strategic importance of high-quality, AI-ready data.
Identify and implement innovative tools and technologies that support data governance, FAIR enablement, and data readiness initiatives.
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data management, AI, and regulatory landscapes, advising on their potential impact and opportunities for Amgen.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who brings a strong blend of experience and leadership:

A Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant scientific or technical field, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, with 6+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or data strategy within a scientific or highly regulated environment, OR a Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in these areas.
Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing comprehensive data governance programs.
Deep understanding and practical experience with FAIR data principles and their application in real-world scenarios.
Proven experience preparing data for advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence initiatives.
Exceptional leadership abilities, capable of driving change, influencing diverse stakeholders, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to articulate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is highly desirable.
