Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Mutt Data, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining production-grade backend services and robust REST APIs. Your primary tools will be Python and FastAPI, all deployed within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. A key part of your work will involve creating a sophisticated communications dispatch service, expertly integrating messaging queues and various external APIs, such as Braze. You will collaborate closely with our development, data, and IT/DevOps teams, ensuring seamless integration of backend services with essential Azure components, relational databases, third-party APIs, and intricate data processes running on platforms like Azure Databricks. We highly value reliability, observability, and writing clean, maintainable code, making these principles central to every solution you deliver.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and operate high-performance, production-ready backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
Architect and implement a robust communications dispatch service, integrating messaging queues and external APIs including Braze.
Collaborate effectively with development, data, and IT/DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration of backend systems.
Integrate backend services with various Azure components, relational databases, and a wide array of third-party APIs.
Work with data processes running on advanced platforms such as Azure Databricks, ensuring data flow and integrity.
Champion best practices in reliability, observability, scalability, and security for all services developed.
Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code with a strong emphasis on testing and code quality.
Contribute to the evolution of scalable data infrastructures and modern Machine Learning systems.

Requirements

Extensive professional experience as a Backend Engineer, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade systems.
Expert proficiency in Python, with a deep understanding of its ecosystem and asynchronous programming.
Strong hands-on experience with FastAPI or similar modern Python web frameworks like Flask or Django.
Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Azure, including services for compute, storage, and messaging.
Familiarity with Azure Databricks or other similar distributed data processing platforms is a significant advantage.
Experience implementing and managing message queuing systems (e.g., Azure Service Bus, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
Solid understanding and experience with relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.
Proven ability to integrate with complex third-party APIs and manage external service dependencies.
Strong grasp of microservices architecture, RESTful API design principles, and common design patterns.
A commitment to writing highly reliable, observable, and maintainable code, including comprehensive testing.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, crucial for a distributed team environment.
