Overview
This is a completely remote freelance engagement open to qualified professionals based anywhere across the globe. You will step in as the human safeguard for critical clinical trial assets, refining raw machine outputs and fine-tuning translated content to guarantee accuracy, natural phrasing, and strict regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
Your day to day work will center around high-stakes pharmaceutical and clinical research documents such as Clinical Study Protocols (CSP), Investigator Brochures (IB), and Informed Consent Forms (ICF). Linguists in this role will regularly handle tasks such as
- Performing thorough English to Japanese post-editing on machine-translated medical text to bring it up to human-level publication standards
- Proofreading and conducting quality assessments to verify factual accuracy, terminology consistency, and adherence to client style guides
- Editing documents directly in Microsoft Word using Track Changes to supply clear, traceable revisions
- Collaborating within specialized CAT environments to preserve translation memories and structured glossaries
Requirements
To succeed in this role and deliver the quality our medical clients rely on, you must satisfy several foundational qualifications
- Native proficiency in Japanese paired with advanced English comprehension
- At least two years of professional translation experience if you hold a university degree, or at least five years of translation experience if you do not
- Demonstrated experience translating or editing materials specifically within life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or medical fields
- Comfortable using standard CAT tools for project delivery
- Have not taken and failed TransPerfect's life sciences linguistic evaluation test within the last two years
