Key Responsibilities & Objectives
As the Specialist, IP Design, you will play a critical role in maintaining network resilience, security, and growth. Your core duties will include:
- Core Network Design & Optimization: Design IP MPLS Core and customer access circuit frameworks. Continually review and optimize existing core MPLS circuits to guarantee maximum availability and uptime.
- Capacity & Continuity Management: Manage business continuity, failover, and redundancy across network core elements. Monitor link capacity, ensuring formal notifications are issued when utilization reaches 70% and above.
- Network Configuration & Security: Perform detailed configuration tasks on core elements including Cisco routers, switches, ASA/Pix firewalls, and Tacacs servers. Implement robust security policies aligned with Vodacom Business standards.
- SDN/NFV & Product Rollouts: Design and manage SDN/NFV networks and products for the core network while supporting data and voice product rollouts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Project Management, Customer Services Operations, Enterprise Business Units, and internal/external stakeholders to integrate new circuits seamlessly.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate, version-controlled network documentation, IP address assignment databases, and generate comprehensive weekly and monthly network performance reports.
Qualifications & Requirements
To succeed in this position, candidates must demonstrate strong technical mastery, leadership experience, and an expert-level understanding of core routing and switching technologies:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of post-NYSC experience in an ISP or VPN provider environment, including at least 5 years of experience managing people or technical teams.
- Certifications: Cisco Certification is required, preferably at the expert level (CCIE).
- Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of Switching, VLAN Trunking, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, Firewalls, MPLS VPNs, QoS, Traffic Engineering, Unix/Linux, Tacacs, and SDN/NFV. Experience with Cambridge BWA, SDH, Transmission networking, and VoIP will be an added advantage.
