Role Overview
As the Programme Assistant, Democracy & Governance, you will be instrumental in supporting the comprehensive planning, coordination, implementation, and rigorous monitoring of our programmes. Your contributions will directly impact initiatives designed to strengthen democratic processes and enhance women's engagement in public life.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme Implementation & Coordination:
- Provide essential operational and administrative support to ensure seamless programme delivery.
- Maintain precise and current records of all programme activities, trackers, and correspondence.
- Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of democracy and governance programmes in alignment with approved work plans.
- Proactively track project milestones, deliverables, and timelines, identifying and flagging potential risks or delays.
- Assist in the development of vital programme materials, including comprehensive reports and presentations.
- Research, Analysis & Reporting:
- Deliver structured research support on critical governance trends, electoral processes, public policy, and women’s political participation.
- Compile and analyze data to inform programme planning, facilitate learning, and support evaluation efforts.
- Aid in the preparation of research briefs, concept notes, and high-quality narrative reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the creation of knowledge products that bolster institutional learning and impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Where relevant, support engagement with a diverse array of partners, including government institutions, civil society organisations, consultants, and community actors.
- Assist in building and nurturing strategic relationships across the expansive governance ecosystem.
- Facilitate effective internal communication and information sharing among programme teams to ensure synergy and collaboration.
- Communication & Outreach:
- As required, contribute to project-related communications, from providing research support for content development to facilitating stakeholder communication strategies.
- Event and Logistics Coordination:
- Support the meticulous organization and coordination of workshops, convenings, training sessions, and stakeholder engagements.
- Manage event logistics, encompassing venue selection, participant registration, travel coordination, and speaker liaison.
- Prepare comprehensive event materials, track attendance, and support post-event reporting.
- Administrative and Grant Support:
- Provide essential administrative support, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and meticulously documenting action points.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, donor reports, and funding documentation as needed.
- Undertake additional programme-related duties consistent with the responsibilities and demands of this dynamic role.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Law, or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in programme support, advocacy, research, public policy, or nonprofit/development environments is essential.
- Demonstrated experience supporting program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy efforts within the governance space.
- A strong understanding of Nigeria’s governance landscape, civic actors, political systems, and regional dynamics.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills and the proven ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications.
- A demonstrated passion for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as an integral part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent research, analytical, and report writing capabilities.
