The Role: Import and Clearing Officer
As an Import and Clearing Officer, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the seamless flow of goods into our extensive operations. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management of end-to-end importation and clearing processes. Your expertise will ensure the timely, efficient, and cost-effective clearance of goods, rigorously adhering to all regulatory requirements and company policies. You will be responsible for maintaining impeccable import documentation and guaranteeing that all shipments are delivered without unnecessary delays, thereby supporting our continuous operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities in Focus
The successful candidate will undertake a range of critical duties, including:
- Coordinating all importation activities, from the initial shipment initiation to final delivery.
- Preparing, reviewing, and managing essential import documentation such as Form M, PAAR, Bill of Lading, invoices, and other regulatory documents.
- Effectively liaising with customs authorities, shipping companies, freight forwarders, clearing agents, and key regulatory bodies (e.g., NAFDAC, SON).
- Ensuring strict compliance with all Nigerian customs regulations and government policies.
- Tracking shipments meticulously and providing regular, timely updates to internal stakeholders.
- Proactively resolving any clearing issues, delays, or discrepancies that may arise.
- Managing duty payments and actively seeking opportunities to drive cost efficiency in all clearing operations.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all import transactions.
- Coordinating the transportation and final delivery of cleared goods to designated company locations.
- Monitoring and evaluating the performance of clearing agents and other service providers to ensure optimal service.
- Ensuring unwavering adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Performing other logistics and supply chain duties as assigned, contributing to overall departmental efficiency.
Who We Are Looking For: Qualifications & Experience
To excel in this role, we require a professional with a strong foundation in logistics and supply chain management:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5–7 years’ relevant experience in importation, clearing, or logistics operations within a corporate or industrial environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CISCP, CILT) will be considered a significant advantage.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly SAP, is also an added advantage.
