This role is crucial in driving business integrity, ensuring compliance, and fostering an ethical culture across major countries in the SSA region.

Role Overview

As the Ethics & Compliance Manager, you will lead business integrity efforts across multiple countries. You will be responsible for identifying compliance training needs, leading implementation strategies, directing compliance investigations, and making high-level determinations. Furthermore, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the business, anticipating and managing risk intelligence to steer internal and external decisions.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Program Management: Develop and execute a comprehensive Ethics & Compliance program tailored for Sub-Saharan Africa to promote legal and ethical behaviors, embed a culture of compliance, and safeguard the business's reputation.
  • Training and Advocacy: Design and run targeted learning programs and compliance inductions. Ensure 100% of new employees are trained on global compliance standards within their first 60 days. Collaborate across functions to promote a visible compliance culture.
  • Investigations & Case Management: Champion organizational justice by leading compliance investigations, managing the EthicsPoint database, coordinating with local cross-functional teams, and presenting outcomes and corrective action plans to senior management.
  • Risk Intelligence & Mitigation: Facilitate continuous assessments of critical and high-risk events under the Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. Deliver country-specific risk profiles and participate in risk and controls committees.
  • Advisory Services: Act as the primary point of contact for internal inquiries, including Conflict of Interest disclosures, speak-up requests, and interpretation of key policies (e.g., Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption, FCPA, Sanctions, and Data Privacy).

Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this challenging yet rewarding position, you must bring:

  • Education: A graduate degree in Compliance, Governance, Controls, Law, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in a corporate setting with practical exposure to Sub-Saharan Africa markets, and at least 7 years in an Ethics & Compliance management role (FMCG sector preferred).
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of FCPA, anti-bribery and corruption policies, sanctions, competition law, fraud risk management, and dispute resolution.
  • Key Skills: Exceptional integrity, credibility, decision-making capabilities, and outstanding communication skills (proficiency in English is mandatory). Ability to present confidently to senior leadership and navigate complex organizational structures.
