About the Role
As a Clinical Perfusionist, you will play a critical role in the surgical team by managing cardiopulmonary bypass and other extracorporeal support systems during complex cardiac and related surgical procedures. Your expertise will directly contribute to patient safety and successful surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and manage heart-lung machines and other extracorporeal equipment during cardiac surgeries.
- Closely monitor patients' physiological parameters, including circulation, oxygenation, and temperature, throughout procedures.
- Prepare, inspect, and maintain all perfusion-related equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Administer blood products, anesthetics, and medications precisely as directed by the surgical team.
- Collaborate effectively with cardiac surgeons, anesthetists, surgical nurses, and other medical staff.
- Maintain comprehensive, accurate patient and procedure records in compliance with medical protocols.
- Ensure strict adherence to all clinical, operational, and safety standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or a recognized qualification in Clinical Perfusion or Perfusion Science.
- Valid professional certification and licensing in your jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated previous experience working as a Clinical Perfusionist within a hospital setting or dedicated cardiac centre.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass mechanics and extracorporeal circulation.
