About the Role

The SME Portfolio Intern will play a key role in supporting the Portfolio Management team. This hands-on position provides invaluable exposure to monitoring and analyzing SME customer performance. During this internship, you will develop practical capabilities in business intelligence, financial reporting, and data analytics within a modern, technology-driven financial institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring the overall performance of SME portfolios using reports and visual dashboards.
  • Support the preparation and scheduling of daily, weekly, and monthly portfolio performance evaluations.
  • Analyze complex portfolio data to identify emerging trends, risk patterns, and opportunities for strategic improvement.
  • Ensure complete accuracy and data integrity across all maintained portfolio records.
  • Help create and maintain robust, interactive business dashboards using Power BI or other specialized reporting tools.
  • Assist with data extraction, cleaning, validation, and database reconciliation tasks.
  • Conduct targeted market research and deliver analytical insights to support strategic portfolio management decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in the Portfolio, Risk, Product, and Operations departments on high-impact projects.

Requirements and Skills

  • Education: Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • National Service: Must have successfully completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
  • Academic Standing: Strong academic record.
  • Technical Competencies: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analytical modeling is essential. Basic familiarity with SQL, MySQL, Power BI, or similar relational database/reporting platforms is highly advantageous.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, research and reporting expertise, and excellent communication skills.
