Role Overview

As a Nutrition and Health Officer, you will play a critical role in implementing and monitoring life-saving health and nutrition interventions. You will be responsible for tracking programmatic data, enhancing the capacity of local health workers, managing crucial supplies, and ensuring that beneficiaries receive healthcare services that meet national and international standards. This position is ideal for a proactive public health professional with a strong background in community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and primary healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will span data management, capacity building, clinical quality control, and team supervision. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Data Management and Mapping: Update and maintain the monthly 5W/4W mapping tool for the Health and Nutrition sector in your operational LGA. Monitor screening-based data on acute malnutrition and track disease surveillance and morbidity reports for assigned facilities.
  • Capacity Building and Training: Assess the training needs of local health workers. Facilitate technical training and on-the-job coaching in key areas such as CMAM, Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), reproductive health, vaccinations, and HMIS/LMIS tools.
  • Supply Chain and Logistics Support: Regularly monitor and audit essential medical, nutritional, and administrative supplies. Draft monthly supply requests to ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery across all designated facilities.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Guide Nutrition and Health Assistants, monitor team performance, track daily attendance, and work closely with HR to coordinate performance appraisals, orientations, and policy adherence.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting: Facilitate quarterly review meetings with local government health managers. Compile comprehensive monthly progress reports highlighting contextual changes, key achievements, and action-oriented solutions to operational challenges.

Position Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and professional skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, or a highly relevant field, coupled with practical experience in public health and CMAM programming.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of active experience working within primary healthcare programs, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient report-writing capabilities with strong hands-on experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Languages: Professional fluency in both written and spoken English and Hausa is essential.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong team management capabilities, high cultural sensitivity, and the ability to deliver constructive feedback to team members and external stakeholders.
