The Role: Store Manager - Control (Inventory Control)
Located at the Obajana Plant, the Store Manager - Control will play a critical role in maintaining the financial and operational integrity of the plant's stores network. The successful candidate will design, implement, and oversee robust inventory management systems, cycle counting processes, and physical-to-system reconciliations. This role is essential for minimizing inventory carrying costs, preventing stock shrinkage, and ensuring seamless material availability for ongoing production activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- System Accuracy: Maintain highly accurate, perpetual inventory records within the ERP/WMS systems, ensuring all receipts, issues, transfers, and adjustments are posted promptly.
- Auditing & Cycle Counting: Design and coordinate cycle count programs and comprehensive stocktakes, working closely with both internal and external auditors during physical verification processes.
- Variance Resolution: Investigate physical-versus-system variances thoroughly, identify root causes, and propose corrective actions to prevent future discrepancies.
- Stock Optimization: Classify inventory using ABC/criticality analysis to establish and maintain optimal safety stock levels, reorder points, and Economic Order Quantities (EOQ) in alignment with Procurement and Planning.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives focused on reducing write-offs, addressing slow-moving items, and minimizing obsolete stock.
- Reporting & Financial Collaboration: Generate monthly inventory reports, ageing analyses, and shrinkage reports for the Head of Stores and the Finance team. Participate in month-end and year-end ledger reconciliations.
- Policy Enforcement: Implement and monitor inventory control policies, SOPs, documentation standards, and approval hierarchies.
- Team Development: Train stores personnel on best practices in inventory discipline, record keeping, and cycle counting.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Percentage of inventory accuracy (by both value and item count).
- Days of inventory on hand and overall inventory turnover ratio.
- Total value reduction of obsolete and slow-moving stock.
- Frequency, magnitude, and financial impact of inventory adjustments and write-offs.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
To succeed in this challenging position, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in inventory management or store control. Experience managing high-value industrial inventory in a heavy manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required, along with practical experience working with ERP inventory modules (such as SAP or Oracle).
- Core Competencies: Analytical mindset with strong numerical capabilities; high attention to detail; solid understanding of costing and basic accounting treatment of inventory; strong process-driven approach; and excellent communication skills to influence diverse stakeholders.
