Role Overview & Responsibilities

As an External Examiner at Iconic Open University, you will play a crucial oversight role in ensuring that our assessment processes are fair, rigorous, and benchmarked against national and international standards. Your expertise will directly safeguard the credibility of our qualifications and enhance the learning experience of our diverse student body.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Academic Rank: Candidates must hold a minimum rank of Senior Lecturer. Readers and Professors are particularly preferred, especially for postgraduate research supervision.
• Qualifications: Must possess a Ph.D. degree in the relevant field of expertise from an accredited institution.
• Experience: Demonstrated expertise in your specialization, with prior experience as an external examiner at recognized tertiary institutions being highly preferred. A robust track record of postgraduate supervision and research publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals is required.
• Independence: Candidates must operate independently of Iconic Open University.

Conflict of Interest Guidelines

To maintain strict objectivity and academic integrity, candidates must not have any conflicts of interest. This includes:

• Current or recent employment with Iconic Open University within the last three years.
• Close professional, contractual, or personal relationships with staff or students involved in the programme.
• Significant involvement in recent collaborative research with staff closely linked to the programme.
• Reciprocal arrangements involving cognate programmes at other institutions.
• Former students of the University, unless at least five years have elapsed and all students taught by or associated with the candidate have completed their programmes.

Preferred Qualifications

While meeting the baseline criteria is essential, candidates who possess the following will be given strong preference:

• A strong publication record in reputable journals over the past three years.
• Direct experience working within Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments.
• Familiarity with modern e-assessment and virtual examination platforms.
• Evident leadership in academic research and postgraduate mentorship.

Tenure & Engagement

External Examiners will be engaged on a contractual basis for a defined period, fulfilling specific duties and roles that align with the academic calendar and institutional needs.
