Iconic Open University, a fully pledged private open and distance learning university licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja, Nigeria, is currently seeking qualified academics to serve as External Examiners for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. External examiners play a crucial and pivotal role in upholding these standards, ensuring our curriculum and assessments meet rigorous national and international benchmarks.
Eligibility Criteria
We invite applications from suitably qualified scholars with demonstrated expertise in relevant academic disciplines. Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Academic Rank: Candidates must not be below the rank of Senior Lecturer. Readers and Professors are strongly preferred, particularly for postgraduate research supervision.
- Qualification: Must possess a minimum of a Ph.D. degree in their field of expertise from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Must have relevant expertise in their specialization, with a demonstrated track record of postgraduate supervision and research publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. Prior experience as an external examiner at recognized tertiary institutions is highly preferred.
- Independence: Candidates must be entirely independent of Iconic Open University, ensuring no conflicts of interest.
Conflict of Interest Guidelines
To maintain absolute impartiality, candidates must not have any of the following:
- Current or recent employment with Iconic Open University within the last three years.
- Close professional, contractual, or personal relationships with staff or students involved in the programme.
- Significant involvement in recent collaborative research with staff closely involved in the programme.
- Reciprocal arrangements involving cognate programmes at another institution.
- Former student status at the University, unless a period of five years has elapsed and all students taught by or with the examiner have completed their programmes.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates will stand out by possessing the following additional attributes:
- A strong publication record in reputable journals within the last three years.
- Experience working within Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments.
- Familiarity with e-assessment and virtual examination platforms.
- Evidence of leadership in research and postgraduate education.
Tenure
External Examiners will be engaged on a contractual basis for a defined period, executing specific duties and roles that may evolve according to institutional needs.
